Daring Flight by Ginny Borolov, Michigan City, IN, USA

As I began preparing myself to staff the November Woman Within weekend in the days before, it was very apparent that I was feeling unsettled and disconnected. As I tried to draw myself in, it became more and more apparent to me that I was distracted because so many of my loved ones were experiencing troubles for a variety of reasons and I knew there wasn't really anything I could do to help them. Everything they had to work on had to be done in their time and in their way, yet I didn't seem able to let it go.

Who She Was by Jennifer Miller-Davis

She had become a pear.

She was standing naked arguing with her mirror. The mirror was winning. She squinted while examining her soft wobbly bottom and an under-ripe top. She watched as her wet hair dripped down her left breast and responded by tensing up her shoulders.

She closed her eyes remembering when she was young all the girls bud with possibility; while she couldn’t graduate from a “training bra” (what exactly were they training them to do?). Every day she was chased home from school by a pack of careless boys who accused her of being “flat as a board.”

Meet: Marg Renaud by Mary Walilko, IL, USA

"Marg is glue to the (WW) Web," Char Tosi wrote in September, 2007, suggesting an interview with Marg. This statement sounded very intriguing to me. Having heard Marg's name only now and then over the years. I wanted to find out who she was and what she did that was considered pivotal to Woman Within.

Marg was born and gew up in Canada within a 25 mile radius of where she is living now.

Ask "Crone OTD": (Crone Judith Pauly, also known as, "Older Than Dirt")

Dear OTD Crone Judith

I am sad to say these past few weeks I find myself snapping at the kids, barking at the dog and eating too much, as well as, sometimes drinking more than usual. Do you have any suggestions how I can get through these tough times without harming my relationships? Sometimes I feel paralyzed with fear and want to just give up. --

Women In Circle and MKP Chicago Host a Successful Isms and Issues Workshop By Leslie Recht, Chicago, IL (USA)

On October 18, the joint Multicultural Committee in Chicago, composed of members of MKP Chicago and Women in Circle members, hosted an Isms and Issues workshop. Isms and Issues provides an introduction to the Visions model for understanding all of the "isms" in our society, like racism, sexism, and so many others.

:: heart words

WITNESS

Empathy rolls through me
a colossal white thunderhead
awesome and heroic
that sometimes hooks my heart
and tips me over
to fall flat
on my face
into your sorrow.

I claim those cumulus clouds
and the thunderstruck child inside
as my own
and tuck her in a safe place
so that I can see with clear eyes,
witness what is your pain
not mine
and love you to the place
where you want to be.
