Who's Hearbeat IS it? by Mary Walilko

On July 10, I posted the following to the Chicago and Midwest list serves, and, Women, you really responded! Now I want to say the same to all the subscribers to the Heartbeat.

It came to my attention recently that there seems to be a wide-spread misconception about the ownership of the Heartbeat newsletter. I would like to clear up these misconceptions.

The Heartbeat does NOT belong to any one WW Region. The Heartbeat does not belong to Women in Circle. It also does not belong to WW International, yet it belongs to all WW Women.

"I Am" by Ginny Borolov

Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess who felt very disconnected from the world. It seemed the harder she tried to break free of those bonds, the more deeply she went inside. Then one day she was touched by another woman who simply said, "You are!"

Bitch Maiden by Stacey Cotton

Bitch Maiden
She is woman, she is the bitch.
He is man, he is the warrior.
They, are the mystery of the myth.

He, makes his way, slowly, stalking her as he would his prey at dusk,
She, hiding, becomes impatient with his prodding,
With his relentless Warrior hunting
She retreats into the darkness, unseen and she, illudes.

Dog Joy by Edna B. Wilson

We wander the marshes next to Rock River drinking in the breezes of the summer day. Redwing black birds atop swaying brown cattails reeds scream and dive at us as we tromp through their muddy space. Turtles, eyes bulging, stare and pull all their parts inside their moveable home; which doesn’t keep Dakota and Bear from carrying them with us for part of our trek.

Ask "Crone OTD": (Crone Judith Pauly: "Older Than Dirt")

Dear Crone Judith:

My question is? Whenever I do something really good and others tell me I was great, I often go into a place of denial or shame. Why is that? I want to eat or drink or waste time or just play a game on the computer.

Can you help me? I feel silly sometimes about this because I know I should feel happy and don't. Can you help?
Waiting and Wondering

WWIL Multicultural "Women's Caucus" Is Born By Louise Lovdahl

The birth of the Woman Within International Ltd multicultural "Women's Caucus" was announced at the July 2008 Multicultural Council (MCC) Gathering. Women involved in this creation included Leslie Recht, Marilyn Jaffe, Joyce Pendleton, Teresita Fawcett, Priscilla Luera, Cherry Steinwender, Harriet Hirsch, Louise Lovdahl and Barb Rath. The women in attendance invited the men to join in celebrating their joy in obtaining this institutional position and support within WWIL. Spokeswoman Marilyn Jaffe thanked and blessed the men of the MCC for several years of holding a space for women to work on multicultural issues.

An Incredible Book by Penny Johns

I just finished reading "Beyond The Green Zone Dispatches from An Unembedded Journalist In Occupied Iraq" by Dahr Jamail

This book took me over a month to read, I had to put it down and walk away several times. Dahr is the son of good friends, Gayle and Gerald Jamail, from the WWI/MKP Houston community. I have staffed with Gayle in South Africa, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Houston. When I was in Houston in January staffing WWL2 I stayed with Gayle and Gerald for a few days before and after the training.

A delightful, inspiring true account of a woman and scientist observing herself having a stroke. I invite you to watch it all the way to the end. It may seem long but well worth it. http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/229

:: heart words

Gone

When I scribbled you out of my Xmas Card List
   my telephone directory
   my address book

I didn’t know who to ring about the children’s school play
   my first publication
   the pain of my
     disappointments.

I wasn’t supposed to see the black bag take you out.

The late midnight of early dawn was meant to hide your final going.

And what of you did I have to keep
after they had packed your dentures and your pearl earrings into
   careful,
   zippered,
   see-through plastic?

I’ve often tried to write you down
   talk you back
   remember you roundly.

But you went out in that black bin bag.
You were collected.
Taken away.

Before I’d finished finding you.
