Reflections on White Privilege: by Mary Ann Hartnett

I recently read, "White Privilege and Male Privilege: A Personal Account of Coming to See Correspondences Through Work in Women’s Studies", by Peggy McIntosh. I want to share my experience of reading this article. I thought reading the article would enhance my knowledge, and it did. I thought it would give me greater self-awareness of how my own over-empowerment (as a white woman) shows up in my life, and it did. What I didn’t expect was to find myself wiping tears from my eyes as I read it. I did not expect to see myself in quite such a new and uncomfortable light.

You Respond to Invitation to Write About Love

Women respond to our invitation to write about love, "Loving, luscious women . . . Let's share about love for February. Who we love. What we love. Exciting places to go when in love. One of the most loving gifts . . . Thoughts of a new love . . . an old love . . . a bold love. Send a valentine greeting. Recall a special time. There's always room for more love . . . and more love...and more . . . February in the U.S. is the perfect time to share your heart beat . . . Louise Lovdahl "

National Healthcare Decisions Day April 16: An Opportunity to Practice Loving Kindness By Loretta Downs

Some of us develop the practice of planning ahead easily and early in life: those who set out clothes at night for the next day, students who finish assignments in advance of due dates, organizers with check-lists, athletes who practice for months before a competition, young senators who aim to be President. Others view planning as a practice in procrastination, even avoidance. Those who are perfectionists can become so crippled by the desire to get it done right, that they seldom get it done on time--or at all. Some of us are simply too lazy, too tired or too afraid of failure to make plans. For others, a deadline can be a friend.

A Staffing Vision by Joanne Mahler

Let me begin by telling you something about myself: I am a visionary. Petty grandiose, eh?

Several years ago I began to feel an internal shift. The archetypal crone energy that had been residing within me, leading and guiding me on my journey, began to make way for something different. Of course I resisted. I was comfortable in my witchy cronedom; in many ways I felt like I'd been born into it. Besides, how could I presume to call myself a visionary?

Heterosexual Questionnaire by M. Rochlin (submitted by Louise Lovdahl)

Heterosexism is a form of bias in which heterosexual norms are used in studies of homosexual relationships. Gay men and lesbians are seen as deviating from a heterosexual norm, and this often leads to marginalization and pathologizing their behavior.

Read the questionnaire below with this definition in mind.

Sexism Workshop: The Latest Multicultural Event By Leslie Recht

On Saturday, December 8, 2007, a sexism workshop was held by the Multicultural Committee of Chicago (Chicago MCC). This workshop addressed questions such as: What is sexism? How does sexism affect your life? What are the unconscious sexist behaviors that are used? How do we encourage sexism in our lives?

Singles: Love Live? What Love Life? by John Thomas

Hi my name is John Thomas and I’m a New Warrior. I have an idea for a completely new kind of singles matching event, one that would be exclusive in that it would match up single Woman Within to single New Warriors. I’m putting this event together for many reasons; partly because I want to create community and raise funds for us, partly because I want to see a creation of mine come to life and find high quality matches for other singles, and mostly because I want to participate in this event and hopefully find my beloved.

This Dreamer's Story

Since the beginning of the idea of me, I have been dolphin – ocean-dweller, air-breather.
Not fish, who lives and breathes in water.
Nor bird, who lives and breathes in air.
Rather some paradox, some tangled form whose essence is two realms interwoven.
I was conceived in the world of spirit and will return there;
I swim nowhere but in the ocean, yet I cannot fill my lungs with it,

Book: "I Am A Woman Finding My Voice: Celebrating the Extraordinary Blessings of Being A Woman"

"I Am A Woman Finding My Voice" includes many journal type entries, each a half a page or so of musings on being a woman. Circle of Stones author Judith Duerk writes, “This book sings with life! Janet Quinn’s spirit fills every page with the exuberance of being a woman and reaches out to us with her vibrant healing energy. Her stories strengthen and inspire.”

This is a sample from Quinn's book: “I am a woman finding my voice" . . . Did I first lose my voice when I learned not to cry too loud or make too much noise so I didn’t wake up Daddy? Or was it when I learned that talking in church was a sin (unless it was to a priest)? Was it the first time I didn’t say what was inside of me because I didn’t want to make someone mad, or was it the first time that I said what wasn’t true because I didn’t want to hurt someone’s feelings? No matter now. Now, I am finding my voice! I am laughing, screaming, crying, and cooing! I am making delighted sounds and angry sounds. I growl and moan, and I sing and chant! I offer soft and sweet words of comfort and passion and I speak loud, clear words of outrage and opposition. I am making holy noise and I am keeping holy, holy silence. Finding my voice means that I claim my freedom to express myself. It means that I speak only what is true for me, and that I will never be silenced again. I am a woman finding my voice!"

Entries include such musings as "I am a woman childless by choice..." or "..letting go and moving on..."or "...dreaming a new dream…" or "discovering my hidden strength". What a springboard for quiet contemplation or for readings with empowerment group sisters.
