Another Look at Initiation by Joanne Mahler
Near the end of 2006 a flyer crossed my path, setting in motion a sequence of events that bolstered my belief in mystery and magic. I wasted no time in wondering if it needed bolstering—what I knew is that I liked the way it felt, and that was good enough for me.
The flyer advertised a yearlong course on West African Spirituality and Ritualism, spread throughout 6 intense 3-day weekends during 2007.

Ask "Crone OTD":
(Crone Judith Pauly: "Older Than Dirt")
Dear Crone Judith:
My question is: when is humor appropriate and when can it be a distraction, especially on the weekend. I see you use it often in your workshops and on the carpet. While I love it I am afraid to use it for fear of being criticized. "Wanting to laugh and not sure."
Dear Wanting to laugh and not sure,
I believe humor, when used appropriately is healing.

White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack - Part I Peggy McIntosh
"I was taught to see racism only in individual acts of meanness, not in invisible systems conferring dominance on my group"
Through work to bring materials from women's studies into the rest of the curriculum, I have often noticed men's unwillingness to grant that they are over-privileged, even though they may grant that women are disadvantaged. They may say they will work to women's statues, in the society, the university, or the curriculum, but they can't or won't support the idea of lessening men's. Denials that amount to taboos surround the subject of advantages that men gain from women's disadvantages. These denials protect male privilege from being fully acknowledged, lessened, or ended.

12 Qualities Needed for a Healthy Relationship by Diane Geiser
1. Acceptance: In order to have a healthy relationship, you need to accept the other person totally as they are. How many relationships do you know of that are based on a lot of hooks or conditions? For example: “I will love you if you do this, if you do that; if you perform in this way; if you change you job.” You need to accept people as they are and not try to mold them to your liking or expectations.

Back from Iraq from Mary E. Gould
Hello Friends and Family,
I have been relesaed early from Iraq. I am relieved in some ways and in others I don't think I will ever feel like I have done enough for my nation and other nations. I am living in Alexandria and will be stationed at the Pentagon (again!) for at least a year. I am hoping to be able to move to Europe or Hawaii once this assignment is up. I am doing well, although at times I still get pretty tired. I am signed up to learn Portuguese over the next year so that is exciting for me. I am working in a job within Current Operations and Crisis Action, so the Air Force is putting my experience to task.
I wanted to thank everyone for your prayers, postitive thoughts, concerns, care packages, loving emails and support. It's tough to be in the military right now, so the arms you have extended out has meant the world to me.
My new address is:
LtCol Mary E. Gould
2345 Huntington Station Court
Alexandria VA 22303
Please stay in touch . . . it's always good to hear from you all of you!
Best Regards and Blessings, Mary

31st Birthday
Lumberjacks work overtime
Under the covers of my life
Sawing and snoring away
At the chipped moments
Cut out of time
Sparked in the air
Landing at my feet
in uneven mounds
That a single breathe could scatter
The delicate balance of life and death
Meet in my bed
Where I lay
Mother, father, child
Safe and protected -for now
Chips cut from the tree of life
Landed together on this pillow
In this moment
My gift

Many thanks to each of you who sent so many good wishes, to me and my family, for this next part of our journey. Thank you, to my wonderful Elkhorn e-circle for hosting my send off gathering. I was delighted to see so many of you take the time to come to my home and say goodbye, showing me once again what a wonderful community WIC is continuing to grow into. It also, sadly reinforced how much I will miss being a part of the regular events being planned. I know I will always feel at home when I come back for a visit.
I hope to see many of you as our paths are meant to cross,
Blessings,
Erin Farrar,
WWI Facilitator,
WWI Board Member
