Thanks for all of your comments on last month's “underwear” letter. I want you to know it is TRUE that early on in WW facilitators were sent in their staff packets “tips for facilitators” with the suggestion to wear red underpants turned inside out. It came from a belief that by doing this it would help keep unwanted energies away. It is no longer sent out.

My question is about the term Archetype. I hear it used quite frequently in Woman Within and would like your description of what it means.

Dear Just a question,

Thanks for asking, I agree sometimes the word archetype can be confusing while, in reality it is a very simple concept.

In each of us there is potential for all. A description that works for me is to liken myself to a computer with unlimited memory. We are a hard drive and downloaded in us and available to each of us is all the software in the universe. This software is a collection of everything that anyone has ever experienced. This is sometimes called the “collective unconscious.”

During our life experience we install or download different software to help us evolve in the human growth experience. For example, if I am abused as a child I may need to download a program that would protect my inner child. This sometimes is referred to as the Warrior. The warrior helps by giving me awareness and strength to continue my journey as well as protection. It claims the right to be alive.

The Crone software will provide a deeper understanding and wisdom, the awareness of “letting go and moving on”.

The Mother nurtures and gives birth to new ideas as well as self love. The Lover is in connection and loves all the senses of life.

The Queen claims her space on earth as well as blesses and is blessed.

When the software is over-used the challenge is to be in balance with what the software has to offer. Over-use can create discord and unrest in the soul. Under-use can create feelings of apathy and victim.
