"Hello from Iraq" from Mary Gould
I have officially hit my two month
mark. I can't say that this month has been easy, but
I am alive and one more month closer to getting out
of here!! For those of you who have showed their
care through emails, letters, care packages,
pictures and prayer . . . thank you from the bottom
of my heart. It's hard for me to connect with anyone
back in the states because I get emotional. I miss
the states and all my friends and family. Knowing
that you are there, supporting me and showing your
care will forever mean so much to me. There will be
a day when I am back home, living a normal life, but
I will never forget these days and those who were
there for me.

Ask "Crone OTD":
(Crone Judith Pauly: "Older Than Dirt")
A note from OTD Judith
Thanks for all of your comments on
last month's “underwear” letter.
I want you to know it is TRUE that early on in WW
facilitators were sent in their staff packets “tips
for facilitators” with the suggestion to wear red
underpants turned inside out. It came from a belief
that by doing this it would help keep unwanted
energies away. It is no longer sent out. click to read complete advice column.

Reaping the Benefits of Your Intuition by Alyce Barry
In the business world, it's often called "instinct" --
the feeling in your gut that tells you to do something.
Following your instinct is also called "playing a hunch."
When you follow your instinct or play a hunch, you're
listening to your intuition, the voice inside that knows
what it knows, regardless of what anyone else says.
Intuition is capable of telling us things that we have no
"rational" way of knowing. It's capable of what looks a
little like magic.

Accidental Zen by Mary Schanuel
The other day, I woke up and my mind stayed behind.
All day long I struggled to make words with a tongue that
felt like an ignorant fat worm and was just as
uncooperative. I left rambling phone messages capped with
brief apologies and hoped I would be out when the calls
were returned.
The dumbness even affected my writing. Offering writing
tips to an employee, I jotted “sentice.”

Multicultural Work
Reverberates Throughout the Midwest Region by Leslie Recht
This summer has been awash with opportunities for multicultural work in the Midwest.
In Kenosha, Wisconsin, on July 13, there was an "Isms and Issues" one-day workshop on racism, lead by Rick Broniec and Henry Thurman, with
interns Teresita Fawcett and Josefa Jensen. This was an
introductory opportunity to discuss racism, hear some
definitions of terms that help to define the ways that racism
operates in our society . . .

Bridges and Boundaries
Workshop:
Not What I Hoped For by Harriet
Hirsch
I left the Bridges and Boundaries Workshop
feeling sad and angry.
I was sad because I didn’t find a way to see how
I behave in racist ways. I was angry because my attempts to do
so were treated with scorn, bullying and attacks. I experienced
white-bashing, arrogance, and shaming, from the presenters
directed at the white participants.

Last Words:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention
of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte
in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and
screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!" (Annon.)

CHAOS
Chaos has its own order
and its own agenda.
Chaos knows what it wants for you
and it will have it.
When you are in chaos
it is not your job to figure it out
or sort it out
or make it stop.
You are not that powerful.
It is your job to feel
what comes up in that swirling pot.
By feeling the feelings and moving
through them you clear the stones and logs
the walls and dark narrow boxes
out of your own way.
So that chaos can do its work
let it take you
to a place you could not have imagined
going on your own.
