Woman Within: History II  by Char Tosi with Edna Wilson

Go back to the last session of your Woman Within weekend and see in your mind’s eye the web that was created by the pink yarn as we sat in circle together. Connections from your weekend web are still present. You are also connected to a growing number of almost 10,000 women who have attended the weekend from as far away as Cape Town, Africa; England, France, New Zealand, Hawaii, California, Florida, Maine and from British Columbia to Ontario, Canada. Since its humble beginnings in 1987, the web does indeed stretch across the United States, and Canada, to parts of Europe and Africa and in March, 2008, will be offered in Australia. click here to read full article

Do you struggle with . . . Perfectionism or Lack of Motivation? by Alyce Barry

I think of perfectionism and lack of motivation as opposite extremes. They exist at opposite ends of a spectrum that has at its center our natural, healthy motivation.

Perfectionism is a kind of super-heated motivation that drives us relentlessly. "I can" becomes "I must" in service of an idealized goal. Perfection is the ultimate in idealized goals since it's actually impossible to achieve!

Lack of motivation, also called apathy or burnout, goes far beyond "I can't" to "why try?"    click here to read full article

Ask Crone OTD: by Judith Pauly

Dear Crone OTD (older than dirt),

I am wondering what kind of underwear is appropriate for staffing the WW weekend. I am very excited about this opportunity to give back and want to be within dress code guidelines.

Two Women: Cynthia Luna and Barb Rath 2004 - 2007

Cynthia Luna, summer, 2004, wrote: "Last weekend I had the fortune to attend the MKP/WWI summer conference in Chicago. And I learned a lot about myself, about others and about our community. I was involved in several disucssions about gender, race, classism, elitism and multiculturalism.  And in all of them was a common factor: lack of awareness!

I have sat in circles where I have been the only Mexican, the only Spanish speaker, the youngest,

Barb Rath, summer, 2004, wrote: "I too am 'media' colombiana though I pass! I was not raised to know my heritage and I didn't receive much vicariously since I look like a white girl. I went to private school and there were no others like me there.

I watched white middle class men struggle with the concepts tht we teach adn walk away with an AHA! Thanks in part to you, Cynthia. The energy in the room was intense and powerful.   click here to read full article

Bridges and Boundaries: An Experiential Workshop on Racism and Diversity by Leslie Recht

In July, the Multicultural Committee in Chicago is sponsoring Bridges and Boundaries, a workshop lead by men and women, at the Kuempel Center in Chicago.

I have heard that this workshop is quite intense, and will change the way that I view racial and diversity issues. I am eager to participate in this workshop because I want to challenge myself to go deeper and uncover my emotions about racism and diversity, with men and women.   click here to read full article

Untitled 10

A crack in the rock
Scarce fertility for the seedling
To sprout

Vague concepts won’t grow a redwood
Won’t support the heavy bow of responsibility
Won’t uplift the root inspiration

Sweat waters the unnourished ground.
Hands dig the hole.
Heads down and focused . . .
For the sake of what?

The wind will blow the sand unrecognisable.
Fools will come with the same shovel
attempting to crack the same rock.

Wise women observe the wind;
They watch its shadow.
Hold then loosen, knowing, knowing
Knowing when the heavens will open
Knowing when to go home

How do they know?
They invited the wind over for tea.
Sat in stillness
Chatted in silence
In relation with relation
Wisdom bestowed
Shoots to redwoods.
