Spring Reflections
by Joanne Mahler
Yesterday was a cross-quarter day, halfway
between the Spring Equinox and the Summer
Solstice . . . . . and it got me reflecting on the
magical
progression of the seasons. Soon we will be tumbling
headlong into the
full, lush, magical, sensual drunken-ness that is
Summer in my corner of the Midwest . . . . . .
. the cacophony of birdsong and
insects...the movement
of the breeze through the leaves as they change from
one shade of green to
another...the foliage and incredible flowers--their
sweet smell wafting
through the air . . . the hot, thick, humid days often
followed by
not-much-cooler/peel-off-your-sticky-clothes nights
. . . . . . . . . . mmmmmm. I
sometimes wonder at my progression from an "I hate
summer weather" person to
a St. Louis Summer-loving woman . . . . . . . perhaps
it's simply a
growing-older wisdom benefit? (That's what I like to
think.)

Natasha Taylor: Lioness Out of Africa
by Mary Walilko
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Natasha Taylor says she had a “happy childhood, playing in the garden with my brother, going to wild game parks with my family.” She did however remember a sense that she was living in a bubble, and that things were "not quite right". Her early schooling was in a government all-white school, and for many years the only people of color she saw were those who worked in the homes, shops or restaurants. During high school, she felt lucky to attend a private school, which was racially mixed.

Vicki Lynn: Vicki Lynn Spirit Art
My work is about expression and transformation. I
create wearable art, art prints and greeting cards
as an avenue, for those who choose to
outwardly express who they are.
My focus is on messages and designs reflecting new
thought and ancient wisdom, you’ll see designs with
spirit animals, massage therapy, reiki, yoga, sacred
symbols, sacred geometry, world peace, t’ai chi,
namaste, om, goddess and more; the response has been
positive and rewarding.

A Reader Responds
A reader’s response to the “Do Your Work”
article.
Thank you for your contributions to the H&H
newsletter. I feel more connected to the community
with the monthly updates and I really appreciate
your energy and work. I write in response to your
article on doing individuals work on racism. As a
member of the WW community I find it difficult to
read this without pointing out that if the goal is
increased diversity then the later section “list and
change the subject to racism and state what white
people need to do?

A Warrior Weekend For Women? Why Not?
by Leslie Recht
In the wilds of Malibu, California, dedicated MKP
and Woman Within graduates are offering a Warrior
Weekend for women, staffed by both men and women.
The weekend
www.herweekend.org is modeled on the MKP weekend. I have attended many weekends
for women staffed by men and women, from Path to
Spirit, to Warrior Monk, to Leaving your Father’s
House. However, I have always had a great curiosity
about the Warrior weekend. I wanted to “know” what
the men got, firsthand, and experience my warrior
energy in a safe place. So, this April, I set off to
see what "herweekend" had in store for me.
I admit I was nervous, fantasizing about how tough
it would be, why was I really doing this?

All Play No Work: The First Women in Circle Pajama Party
by Mary Ann Hartnett
On April 14th & 15th, twenty-two women gathered in beautiful Delevan, Wisconsin at the House
in the Wood for the first-ever Women in Circle Pajama Party.
Who knew that a single question posed by one woman would spark a 2-hour sharing around the
circle of our sexual selves. Woman after woman, with openness and honesty, shared what she feared, what she
longed for, and pondered how her sexuality might be different, better or more. Several women spoke of great
healing and transformation of their sexual selves. There were plenty of laughs too . . . as you might imagine.
It was a sacred healing balm.

Last Words:
"The fourth shadow among leaders is fear. There are many kinds of fear, but I am thinking especially of our fear of the natural chaos of life. I think of a lot of leaders become leaders because they have a life-long devotion to eliminating all remnants of chaos from the world. They're trying to order and organize things so thoroughly that the nasty stuff will never bubble up around us (such nasty stuff as dissent, innovation, challenge, change.) . . . Chaos is the precondition to creativity, and any organization (or for any individual) that doesn't have an arena of creative chaos is already half dead. When a leader is so fearful of chaos as not to be able to protect and nurture that arena for other people, there is deep trouble.
The spiritual gift on the inner journey is to know that creation comes out of chaos, and that even what has been created needs to be returned to chaos every now and then to get recreated in a more vital form. The spiritual gift on this inner journey is the knowledge that in chaos I cannot only survive, but I can thrive, that there is vitality in the chaotic field of energy." Untitled 1
Words wanting expression
Tipping over tea cups to get attention
Hiding and poking noses through
Couch cushions
Spilled midnight ink across white paper
Silk slippery, snagging time
The child refuses to grow
I take time off and let it slip to the floor like lingerie
Hours lay strewn about the bedroom
Fear like weeds sprout under the sheets
And tie me down fighting for the sun
They own the footsteps, the hairbrushes and the toys
Told they would be better put away
Healing notes hold the space for
Clearing
Extensions stretch loud into the fire
Across the room
All codes broken and barren
Red, yellow blue wanting to know what they will become
Held constant
Stitched and mended
Exploded mines mind
And she dances secretly in the kitchen.

Seasoning
On a warm sunny afternoon
I watch the snowflakes fall
To pieces, everything in pieces
Pieces of a life once pleasant
Pieces of a heart once whole
I watch the snowflakes of
Incongruent thought drift past
On a cold cloudy afternoon
I watch the raindrops splatter
Forming puddles, everywhere puddles
Puddles of tears from a happy face
Puddles of blood from a happy place
I watch the raindrops of
Despair and pain gather on the ground
On a windy clear afternoon
I watch the leaves drift around
Never grouping for more than an instant
Instants of clarity shuffle past
Instants of closure never come
I watch the leaves of closeness and trust, pass each other off.
