Diversity Committee Expanding by Mary Walilko
The Diversity Committee is committed to creating a
nurturing community where women can connect as women as
well as honor and learn from their differences.
The
Diversity Committee, formed by the WW East Coast Sage
Circle (ECSC), and headed by Harriet Hirsch, expanded
into the mid-west Chicago area last year.
Participation in the Diversity Committee is open to all
WW Woman from all regions and all parts of the world.
ECSC DIVERSITY COMMITTEE
East Coast Sage Circle has formed a Diversity Committee
to support the vision of a diverse and inclusive
community. Our community is made up of women from many
different backgrounds including race, nationality,
culture, religion, sexual orientation, political
affiliation, physical disability, and more. The
Diversity Committee is committed to creating a nurturing
community where women can connect as women as well as
honor and learn from their differences. Our desire is to
honor our current diversity as well as bring more women
of diverse backgrounds into our community.
The Diversity Committee operates as an advisory group to
the ECSC Board. In close collaboration with the
different local councils, as well as with MKP and other
regions, our work includes:
-
Listening to women of diverse backgrounds who are

Letter from Harriet Hirsch, dated December 29, 2006
When I attended the Multi-cultural Conference (MCC)
Council meeting in St. Louis, I proposed that there be a
permanent member of the Delegate Council, which is the
governing body of the MCC, who is a representative of
the Woman Within Centers. They accepted that proposal
and I was elected to that position by the women present.
It is my intention in that role, and in the role of the
Diversity Committee to do my best to inspire women to
take on the role of representing not only each region,
but ultimately each center from each region. Those women
would become part of both the MCC, as reps to that
council from our centers, as the men have, but also
would have the option of joining the Diversity Committee
which ultimately would become the women's caucus amongst
those interested in this, and would have subcommittees
of which the ECSC Div. C. would become one.
