Living a Physically Challenged Life by Marcy Lomen
When I offered to write about Multiple Sclerosis for the
Diversity Committee back at our community weekend, I
never knew how difficult a task it would turn out to be.
My emotions were suddenly fired up again with the very
fact that I have this disease. Actually I find it easier
to climb stairs than write words about this disease. And
even easier to just show people how I live with it. For
those of you who do not know about MS as it is commonly
referred, it is a chronic inflammatory disease that
affects the central nervous system. MS can cause a
variety of symptoms including changes in sensation,
vision, muscle weakness, difficulty with coordination
and speech, severe fatigue and pain. For the purpose of
this article I’ll skip the medical details but am happy
to offer more information if you wish to contact me.
I was diagnosed in 1979 as a senior in college ready to
run, travel and offer all I could in the world.

An Interview with Leslie Recht:
by Edna Wilson
I first met Leslie at House in the Woods in Delavan, WI.
last March. Each year as the universe awakens from its
winter slumber, energy shifts and moves and things begin to
happen. The ice cracks in huge riffs on the lake outside,
the geese return in large V's, honking and cackling as they
set down on the frozen brown earth of the island. Women
come together to heal.
Likewise, each March synchronistic, and often-magical
events seem to occur in my life. Is it by chance? I doubt
it. Last March was no exception. I had heard of Leslie for
several years in e-mails and newsletters; in conversation
with other women, her name would come up. I was curious. I
wanted to meet her but didn't know why. click here to read full article |

As the Holidays approach,
think about giving yourself a wonderful gift.
Imagine a magnificent castle surrounded by a dense,
forest. This castle has many rooms full of treasure just
waiting to be discovered and the queen who dwells there
invites you to come and claim the treasure that is waiting
for you. Are you ready and willing to claim all the
treasures that are rightfully yours? Do you even know the
power and the magnificence that this castle has in store
for you?
Take a moment to imagine that your life is like a castle.
There are many parts of your life that represent which of
the castle rooms you spend your time. There may be rooms
in your castle that you shut off many years ago and have
not had the time and/or energy to open the doors and see
what you may discover there.

Last Words: (from The Rose)
Some say love
It is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love
It is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love
It is a hunger
An endless, aching need
I say love
It is a flower
And you it's only seed
It's the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance.
|
It's the dream afraid of waking
That never takes a chance. It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give.
It's the soul afraid of dying
That never seems to live.
When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long.
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies a seed that with the sun's love
In the Spring Becomes a Rose.

Zen of Prairie Fire
The animal in me is a mouse
hiding in soft dirt burrows
beneath a dry prairie
cozy with worms and fleas
unaware of the grass fire that burns
just inches away
all around my tunnel hole.
Fire smolders
close to the ground
mostly unseen
‘til sudden breeze
gives life
breathes energy and pure oxygen
into its heart
so it dances and leaps and flares
changing everything
once again
into the stuff we’re all made of
ashes and dust
steam and energy.
I am the mouse. I am the fire.
I am the grass. I am the breeze.
